  • The After Math: An Xbox One special

Welcome to The After Math, where we attempt to summarize this week’s tech news through numbers, decimal places and percentages.

DNP The After Math An Xbox One special

We doubt you missed it, but Microsoft unveiled its new games console this week, and it even showed off some Xbox One hardware to prove it. While the new name is offering casual gamers a bit of confusion — Google “Xbox One” for a taste — the specifications sound like they could make for one very potent console. Billions of transistors? We’re just hoping they ensure there’s plenty of Covenant to shoot in the requisite Halo sequel. There was a very heavy focus on TV, Call of Duty and sports games, so plenty of big-hitter titles to get excited about. But numbers and decimals make us just as happy, so join us for plenty of ’em after the break.

  • Foxconn and Mozilla join hands over Firefox OS, new devices expected next week

Foxconn and Mozilla hold hands over Firefox OS, expected to show new devices

In a Chinese invitation we received earlier today, Foxconn Technology Group and Mozilla confirmed an upcoming press conference that will detail and make their Firefox OS partnership official. The event will take place in Taipei next Monday (just a few days before Computex truly kicks off), and it’ll see Mozilla welcome the 19th partner to its Firefox OS alliance. There isn’t much meat in the email, though we did spot a little hint in the rundown that says one or more new Firefox OS products will be displayed. Whatever they may be, we shall keep an eye out for them as soon as we land in Terry Gou’s back garden next week.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook's interview at D11 is tomorrow, get your liveblog here!

Apple CEO Tim Cook interview at D11 the liveblog

Just a year after Tim Cook sat down for his first non-financial interview as CEO of Apple, the man himself is back for yet another round. He’ll be seated in Rancho Palos Verdes, California tomorrow evening at the D11 conference, taking questions from hosts Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg, and we’ll be liveblogging every moment of it. The interview is taking place with under a fortnight to go until Apple’s WWDC, where we’re expecting to see details on iOS 7, the Mac lineup and perhaps a glimpse at whatever the company is (presumably) cooking up in the wearables department. The action begins at 6PM PT (9PM ET) tomorrow, so feel free to bookmark this link and return at the time listed below.

Welcome to IRL, an ongoing feature where we talk about the gadgets, apps and toys we’re using in real life and take a second look at products that already got the formal review treatment.

IRL: iPod Classic and the WhoSounds TARDIS Bluetooth Speaker

It wasn’t our intention to run a nostalgia-themed IRL on Memorial Day, but here we are. After the break, Dan Cooper relives his fascination with the TARDIS time machine, and Brian swears he doesn’t care if you laugh at him for using an ancient iPod.
